I know it has been a long while since I have been able to attend anyt
hing or
have even responded to groups: I feel this issue must bypass my own issues.
Antonio, you are right. I stand behind you 100%. Back in the day, I was taught
that fighting for the rights of justice and freedom, a group must see themselves
as a triangle where all sides are of equal proportion. Unity, Ethics, and
Justice. Anyone person, group, or organization who breaks the triangle causes it
to become weak.
Is what is happening with LULAC and Mr. Martinez ethical? Is it creating Unity?
Two sides of the stable triangle seems to have become weakened. and Despite the
years or numbers of any person or organization, IMO is irrelevant.
If LULAC can not stand up for its ethics vs contributions, it only makes us
weaker. Not to mention how it can be seen and used to promote the ideal of lack
of integrity. As for individuals who want to view themselves as "founders",
"leaders", or "top dog"; again the Unity side of the triangle is weakened. Power
of one or a few has no place here.
I myself have witnessed how a few will push others aside when cameras,
reporters are around. Billing themselves as "the hero" who started whatever
protest is going on. I have even had reporters comment to me about those
actions. They would be interveiwing a person, when someone else would come over
and physically place themselves as focus.
That makes us all look bad. As though we are glory houn
ds vs true fighters for
justice and freedom. Annie

Sarah I understand about Unity and Solidarity, that is why I takes the stands
that I take. Speaking the Truth as far as the CCA sponsorship monies to LULAC
was not easy for it affected a friendship of more than a decade. LuLAC rolls
over many, I am just one more. I try to advocate for just and equal treatment of
all especially those that are unable to do so for themselves. It became
necessary for my own self to say some of the injustice and disrespect I have had
deal with because of my statement against CCA`s sponsorship money to LU LAC.
Sorry to have put it before you but perhaps it will help our struggles in the
long run. Truth must be allowed! Tlazocamate

Cynthia, while I deeply appreciate the very kind comments you made about my
comments, the bottom line is "TOGETHER WE CAN" - - - "DIVIDED WE FAIL!"
I've spent the majority of my life involved in worthwhile projects, ideas, etc.
and what I learned while I was still in high school was that if any one of us
finds it more important to be the 'top dog' than to be a member of the TEAM that
is org
anized to achieve whatever it is that we believe in, not only will that
person fail, but he/she will bring down the entire group.

Who really cares who started what, or who is the person
in charge????? All I care about, and all that I believe in my heart
that Cynthia cares about is achieving our goal to FREE THE CHILDREN.  It is past
time for all of us to be ADULTS, 'put away childish things' and unite together
to FREE THE CHILDREN.

What more needs to be said????

Subject: Re: cesar .e. chavez march for justice san antonio tx

We must remember how this all began.  Jay Johnston Castro brought attention to
the fact that children and families were being detained in privatized prisons
and cited this as a flaw of an unjust immigration policy.  He organized
a meeting at the Capitol to bring like-minded people together.  It was at this
meeting that this effort was elevated to a higher level and more people became
involved.  These efforts spurred the growth of various branches who believe that
it is philosophically, morally, and ethically wrong to imprison children...for
ANY reason!

Soon, there was a slight deviation by some who had developed relationships with
those corporations making money by doing this very thing.  It came to light that
LULAC did accept money for the past several years from CCA, one of the FOR
profit prison corporations making millions of federal dollars by imprisoning
children and families.  It also became common knowledge that the OTHER group,
the NOT-for profit corporations such as SOUTHWEST KEY, was ALSO in the business
of making millions of federal dollars by imprisoning children and
families.  Many came to their defense.  However, regardless of motivation or
justification, the bottom line remained the same...making MILLIONS of dollar
s at
the expense of IMPRISONING children and families as allowed by an unfair and
unjust immigration policy was WRONG!  Unfortunately, some of these awful
policies were developed and implemented by
the Clinton administration and ALL were supported and "tweaked" by the previous
Bush administration.
This could be why many of the philosophical, moral, and ethical questions
raised have become very personal.  There are MANY that have supported BOTH
groups for monetary gain and have had to justify this when such information has
been brought to light.  They have been allowed to remain "in the know and within
the ranks" of the movement that became "Save the Children", even though this
runs contrary to what MOST of us still believe...that it is wrong to make "blood
money" by imprisoning families and children.

There is a relatively easy way to resolve all of this.  It should be REQUIRED
that any person OR organization adopt a policy that states that they do NOT
support the imprisonment of children and families...FOR ANY REASON and by ANY
entity!  It should also be REQUIRED that any person and ALL organizations adopt
a policy that stipulates that we will work TOGETHER to change ANY unfair and
unjust immigration policy that allows for this to occur...regardless of whether
the funding comes from ICE/HOMELAND SECURITY/DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN
SERVICES!!!  Thes
e statements must be adhered to by any person or group that
claims to be a part of ANY of the outgrowths of the "Close the T. Don
Hutto", "Border Ambassadors", or the other groups that developed or were created
as a result of ANY of these efforts.

The message originally espoused was "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND BARS!" and "Save the
Children!".   It did NOT stipulate whether these prisons/facilities/detention
centers were owned by FOR profit or NOT for profit corporations...the message
was simple.  The T. Don Hutto prison was representative of the many facilities
that have continued to crop up around the country, including those in the
Valley.  The message has been somewhat corrupted by those who feel that they
must justify something...either their conscious or their purse-strings or their
flawed perspective.  In having spoken of the "no child behind bars"
movement, "old timers" like Jay or Antonio or Gina or Sarah, Kenneth, Jose,
Christina, Mary Jane, the Janes, and anyone else that that I may have not
mentioned ALL agreed that we ALL needed to draw public attention to the
existence of these places because it was just plain wrong for them to
exist.

We ALL also know that the political reality is that there will ALWAYS be people
who will "jump on the bandwagon" in an attempt to elevate themselves or their
group BECAUSE of the success of20the original efforts to shed "the publicity
light" on these ongoing great injustices.  We must be prepared to look in the
mirror and see that we, as a country, must NOT acquiesce to a big business
approach for privatizing those services that MUST remain in the public sector as
the ONLY protection to insure public accountability and financial transparency.

It was about two years ago that a friend was "censored" and told that she could
NOT mention the name of Dr. Juan Sanchez and Southwest Key OR LULAC National
would be sued.  This letter was sent to Rosa Rosales by the Southwest Key
attorneys. THIS was ridiculous and absurd. Yet, it did occur and what was worse,
LULAC acquiesced to this outright threat.

It is difficult to understand why people do what they do or say what they say,
except to speculate that their maneuvers or manipulations will force others to
"do their bidding".  We should not have to relinquish our right to freedom of
speech...or to organize...or do to ANY-thing allowed by our Bill of Rights and
Constitution because of undue pressure brought upon by those that must
justify their position...their CHOICE to imprison children.   Yet this often
happens and it occurs from within our own ranks.  Aahhh...the old "divide and
conquer" adage rears its ugly head.  Unfortunately, como latinos, advocates, and
freedo
m fighters, we have also learned THAT old lesson well.

I was not present to know what happened in San Antonio.  However, I do know
that in my experience with Antonio, I have NEVER known him to be other than
passionate and true to his convictions.  The same goes for the whole Indigenous
group that has become a part of the "SAVE the CHILDREN" movement.  I am in
agreement with Sarah that these conversations often lead to infighting and undue
public scrutiny, however, this is an organizational "growing pain" that should
serve as an incentive to resolution.  This MUST not be repeated, but we should
all agree to support very basic organizational goals and methods to prevent
future outbursts such as peaceful demonstrations and the adoption of
those previously mentioned policies.

Don't think that this doesn't happen within the Democratic Party, or the
Republican Party, or any other huge group or movement.  It proves that these
efforts that began with ONE MAN, ONE VOICE are EXTREMELY successful.  EVERYONE
wants to be tied to such a movement, however, it is NOW time to impose
philosophical, moral, and ethical premises that we must ALL adhere to.  If not,
then just get out and start your own movement...

UNIDOS en la lucha y con mucho respeto,
Cynthia

Together we can achieve.

Fragmented we are just that - - - using our own egos to hurt those we attack,
but even more so ourselves and those who also believe in what we are doing.

I'm not Hispanic, but I'm also not racist.....I am a proud American who works
every day for a better country for all who come to this country, seeking a
better life.

Infighting does nothing more than let our adversaries have their way - -
they
delight in this rhetoric, and if you think they don't know, you're wrong.  There
are infiltrators in every organization who love to see this sort of

Injustice tolerated anywhere is injustice tolerated everywhere! I
and Mr. Jaime P. Martinez started the Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice in San
Antonio together as Co- Founders, along with Mr. Tony Garza. That is history and
fact. I let Mr. Martinez take the Limelight  and showed him respect for his 30
some odd years as a Union man. That tenure as a Union Man gave him the
connection to Cesar E. Chavez. Mr. Martinez has been a great facilitator for the
C.E.C March for Justice due to his Union connections and I have always duly
noted his contributions. I on the other hand was born entre Los Surcos de Los
Labores. My Grand father died entre Los Surcos de Los Labores. I have a personal
connection as it is my firm believe that Cesar. E. Chavez improved the living
conditions for all people in the fields, my family included. The falling out
between myself and Mr. J.P. Martinez
for my speaking the Truth at a T.D.20Hutto Prison Protest Rally that I helped to
spearhead should not permit Mr. Martinez to take me out of the organizing
committees of the Cesar E Chavez March for Justice. We are Co- Founders, he
assumed the title of March Chairman and I March Line Placement Director as well
as Security Director. I did not fabricate nor create the situation wherein Lu
LAC accepted Money from Correction Corporation of America the parent company of
the T.D.Hutto private Prison that incarcerates Families with Children. I simply
read their sponsors list and denounced it. Mr. J.P. Martinez position within the
LU LAC hierarchy is what  motivates him to turn against me. I endured much
disrespect due  my speaking the Truth about CCA sponsorship of LU LAC. At a
meeting last year of 08 Mr . Martinez`s inner group spurred by Mr Gabriel Q.
Velasquez took to tossing coins in my direction every time I stated that I was
Co -Founder along
with Mr. Martinez . This disrespectful action prompted me to demand mutual
respect or satisfaction from Mr.Gabriel Velasquez which threw the inner circle
of Mr. Martinez into a panic. Resulting in all sorts of rumors that I threatened
,I have even being ac cussed of physically assaulting Mr. Velasquez which of
course is a total fabrication. I am a follower of non-violence, but I am an
advocate for Just and Equal treatment for all people including myself. Those
that participated in the Childish d
isrespectful act of tossing the coins and
snickering as they did so, they know that I speak the Truth  but if they wish to
lie to others that is on them. One thing though they can not lie to themselves .
I endeavored to create something to Honor and Recognize the work of a Man of
Peace a Humble Man that better red the lives of many. A far better man than I. I
am saddened at the situation I find myself in today. I feel as if I am
besmirching his memory,but I
am caught in a whirlpool of wanton, greed and lies. What would Cesar do?
