National LULAC President Rosa Rosales, Jaime P. Martinez, National LULAC Treasurer,and the National LULAC Executive Board members,State Directors, took action at a "Special" called National Board meeting, by conference call, Friday July 27,2007.
"We don't want the CCA Sponsorship, President Rosales told the National Board, and I want, National LULAC to send the Sponsorship check back to them." This was echoed by the National Treasurer, Jaime P. Martinez, who introduced the motion calling to send the check Sponsorship back. The National LULAC Board voted unanimously on the motion, and to send a letter back with the check calling for a meeting with CCA, and Homeland Security to work with National LULAC, to work to get the innocent children and their families out of the prison environment.
FACTS
On Monday, July 23, I sent an e-mail that this was in the works. I had discuss this fact with certain individuals and made them aware of this action that was to take place.
As we all know these individuals immediately went on the attack on National LULAC, myself, Rosa Rosales, accusing us as pretending to champion the defense of the children while looking the other way.
This in my opinion was a very mean spirited, underhanded tactic, by these individuals, who have marched with us (LULAC) in protest, in defense of these immigrant families and innocent children at the Hutto, prison for profit.
These individuals, knew well that LULAC was in the forefront of fighting for Justice, Human rights of these families, at the Hutto prison, etc. I do not speak for these individuals, nor they speak for us. Our actions and long history of "Fighting for Human, Labor, and Civil rights are well documented not only here in San Antonio, Texas, but Nationally and Internationally.
As I stated in my July 23, e-mail, (To All ), that Rosa Rosales, National LULAC President and myself and National LULAC, would do the right thing. This has been done ! VIVA LULAC !
On Friday, July 27, 2007, President Rosa Rosales at the "Special" called meeting of the National Board members from all over the United States voted unanimously on my motion to send the sponsorship check back to CAA, etc.
LULAC is an organization who has always been in the forefront of defending Human,Civil and Immigrant rights and will continue to do so at these prisons, (Hutto) for profit. "No Child Belongs Behind Bars!"
