Good morning Pedro...
I'm not sure what the purpose of this e-mail is or why it is so widely copied.
Unfortunately, Hutto right now is more of an ICE decoy. ICE has reduced the number of children that are in it. While everyone is focused on the Hutto, other Huttos are being built in other parts of the country. While this Hutto needs to be shut down, ICE is imprisoning children all over the country in other facilities...and probably in worse conditions.
While children are imprisoned in Hutto, unaccompanied children are also being imprisoned...for profit...all over the state and country. They need our help as well. Think of all the ICE raids all over the country. Where are they putting the children? By law, they should go to Hutto. But...Hutto's population has gone down not up. In the mean time, there seems to be a strong coalition against Hutto. Now we need strong coalitions against the rest of them.
Aside from prisons, every day, children are even dying trying cruel deaths to come into our state and country...and those deaths are intensified by the building of the border wall. That is why we've personally spent nearly the entire year protesting the border wall all across the US-Mexico border. We've also gone out with groups to place water in the desert and go on searches for bodies of immigrates that have died in the Arizona desert. Do you know they've started construction here in Texas...and that deaths of innocent children will increase here along the Texas border?
That is also why we did the Citizens Walk for Human Dignity out in Arizona in May. We wanted to expose Endgame...the blueprint of all the racial profiling, ICE raids and profit prisons, including Hutto. It's hard to get anyone to read it, let alone grasp it. http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/dhs/endgame.pdf See what you can do with it.
As we walked from Tucson to Phoenix, we went through Florence a city of prisons, worse than Raymondville, TX. We exposed Eloy where they are building an entire square mile...a mile square...of "for profit" internment camps for immigrants...including another Hutto type facility. And no one is protesting.
It is good that you and others are dedicated to closing this Hutto down.
Below, you mention that we met "indirectly". I look forward to meeting you..."directly"...Pedro. Keep up the good work.
In solidarity...
Jay

Jay, we met last year indirectly at the press conference. So much has changed in One year. How many more Hutto protests will it take to close Hutto for good? As many as it takes. People can have an impressive resume like 12 Hutto protests but it is what we do today that counts. It's Ok to count every protest but true historians document with photos, videos, names, and dates. To create an archival database would be great. Some have created short films on Hutto while others have their television program with video clips. The essence of every protest is as important as trying to keep up with lawsuits, ACLU decisions, tours of Hutto, and the website www.tdonhutto.blogspot.com I was impressed with Lulac's new resolution to tear down Hutto at www.texasprisonbidness.org It's a start to be on the same sheet of music, but CCA should be addressed as well. Maybe the future we'll target CCA's pocketbooks. For the meantime, it is imperative that we document our struggles. I documented May 24th, 2008, and hope to document many more demonstrations with the help of my family. Close Hutto Down! Chavez March for Justice and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement-AFL-CIO was a successful event covered by the Spanish and English media. Our message was clear that we are in "solidarity" in our mission to work in "unity" to continue to work to close these prisons for profit in Texas and Don Hutto Prison Camp which are beign used to incarcerate immigrant families and children! I strongly believe that we must work with all our coalitions, Amnesty International, Children and Families for Human Treatment Alliance, NAACP, Labor and other groups who want to join this just cause. I worked along side Cesar E. Chavez half of my life and what I learned from him is to continue to "strike" where it hurts and that is the pocket book. I will be talking to Congressman Ciro Rodriguez, who sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee, to start an investigation on why are these prisons for profit did not allow UN Representatives and organizations to come into these facilities, what are they hiding? Not one cent should be appropriated any more! As the Founder of the Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice and Organizational committees in San Antonio, Texas, along side founding member organization LULAC, (Rosa Rosales, LULAC National President), and the National Labor contacts, we will continue to work to close these prisons for profit. I can assure you that ! Our target date to converge on Taylor, Texas is Saturday, June 23 - International Refugee Day. Our message was heard loud and clear in the news press conference as we announced the Freedom Bus riders /caravan campaign - "Free The Children" SI SE PUEDE ! In Unity; Jaime P. This will still require a major effort of getting the people out there. Amnesty Int. is mainly a watchdog org. and will send out a contingency to observe that we don't overstep our rights and that those we are protesting against don't violate our rights. Defending the rights of the asylum seeking refugees , will still depend on our efforts. I will work towards the date of June 23rd., but not only towards that date . As you well know it will take more than just one demonstration . We have been organizing a day of Action for June 9th 2007 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Hutto Prison in Taylor TX. Hope you can join us. I will keep organizing people that wish to do something to close Don T. Hutto prison down as well as the prison in Raymondsville and in Haskell and the others that are starting to spring up. Down with Fascism up with the People. Set the Children Free. Tlazocamate Antonio Diaz Founder of the Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice Organize, Organize, Organize Thanks Annie... I've added both you and Alyssa to our loop. If either of you are already receiving our updates...please let me know and I'll correct that. I'm copying Antonio here so that Alyssa has his contact info. Please be advised of the following notice that I just sent out. Let me know how you might want to weigh in... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just got a call from LULAC National....Jaime Martinez... They plan to do a train of Freedom Buses to Free the Children...to converge on Hutto...July 4. Right now I'm trying to pull it all together for June 23rd...the date that Amnesty International selected to hold a vigil to Free the Children. June 23 is a weekend day that corresponds with the International Day of the Refugee (June 20th)...and LULAC has agreed to that date. So I just talked to Amnesty ...and should find out shortly if it's a GO-GO... There will be a press conference tomorrow morning in San Antonio to announce the date... There is also a coalition in Dallas of different groups such as NAACP and CAIR that might join forces. This is suddenly taking on the national scope that we hoped for. If Communications Workers of America and AFL/CIO join forces...the walls of Hutto will come down...and the children will be freed. Be expecting another notice...soon...today!!! Jay 8:00? 8:25? 8:40?
